Laurie Lown & Rickey Bradley based their wedding on their strong belief of helping animals. In lieu of gifts, the couple requested donations to their three favorite animal charities.

I met my husband, Rickey, when I was a regional director for In Defense of Animals. A volunteer was soliciting auction items for one of our fundraisers when she happened upon a unique lamp in an art gallery. She phoned the creator, Rickey, to request an auction donation and he replied Anything for the animals! He came to the event, and it was love at first sight. We have been together ever since.
Rickey proposed on bent knee on my birthday in June 2003 at The Lion and The Rose Victorian B&B in Portland, Oregon. In keeping with our fondness for the Victorian era, we were married at the Queen Anne Victorian Mansion. Rickey and I each had six attendants plus two flower girls, a ring bearer and a bell ringer. My mother and a dear friend walked me down the aisle, while Rickey was escorted by his two sisters.
The entire wedding was based on our strong beliefs of helping the animals any way that we could. In addition to having vegan clothes, food and cake, we had an insert in our wedding invitations requesting donations to our three favorite animal charities in lieu of gifts.
We chose not to have a wedding consultant but rather relied heavily upon the talents and assistance of friends. They addressed the wedding invitations in calligraphy, created our wedding programs, and decorated the site. One friend custom-made stunning jewelry for my attendants and myself, and she doubled as our florist.
A memorial table displayed photographs of our departed loved ones. To signify the beginning of our wedding, our usher and usherette lit long tapered candles which were next to each photograph.
Rickey wrote the verbiage for our wedding invitations, The Best Things In Life Are Worth The Wait
Like Finding Your Soul Mate. Guests rang bells when we were pronounced husband and wife, and blew bubbles during our first dance as a string quartet played Laras Theme. Our wedding favors were customized flower seed packets.
Our wedding was like a beautiful dream and the happiest day of our lives.
